I use two methods, I have a set of barn doors which accept a gel holder, and I use a set of CTO 1/4, 1/2 and full orange, along with a window green gel for correcting fluorescent lighting (which I haven’t used yet), fitted to gel plates which I can simply slide into the holder. When I’m using a soft box or umbrella’s, and can’t fit the barn doors, I have cut heat resistant gels into small cones that fit over the flash tube. These gels are held together with a few staples and clear tape. The CTO’s work great, but as I mentioned I’ve never used the green gel, as I prefer to just switch them off if I can. I’ve mounted a relatively heavy 36″ octobox and a somewhat lighter 10″x48″ strip box to these without any trouble.
